Kamchatka is undoubtedly the Russian land of bears. And Kuril Lake is considered the Kamchatka land of bears.
This phenomenon is explained by salmon spawning concentrating in that area and attracting a number of bears. By the end of summer there are more than 200 brown bears on the coastline of the lake: they are trustful because they are protected by South-Kamchatka Sanctuary. This is why we can approach bears and stop just a couple of meters away from them.

9.00 am Meeting at heliport, registration for the flight. Flight to Kuril lake takes about 1 hour. During the excursion you’ll observe the bears and salmon spawning grounds, visit the fish-counting weir and have a boat trip to Severnaya bay. After the excursion you’ll be offered lunch – hot meals, tea, juice. After a short flight you’ll visit Kluchevoye lake and view the hot beach, located in the Caldera of Ksudach volcano. This volcano is declared the Natural Monument due to its geological construction. The eruption resulting in the volcano collapse took place in 1907 so that its volcanic ash is still recognized 200 km away from the epicenter of eruption. After one more short flight you’ll land at the foot of Khodutka volcano where you’ll be able to bathe in the unique hot river (the temperature is up to 40° C. Khodutka thermal springs are considered to be healing due to the high concentration of silicic acid. The route is equipped with broad wooden paths and steps and is available for people of any physical condition. 06.00 pm Return to the heliport. |
